Music Ministry

The Music Ministry of First Baptist Church focuses on enabling the congregation to encounter God in worship through His gift of beautiful music. There are opportunities for all ages to get involved.

The SANCTUARY CHOIR serves as the primary worship leading choir for our 11:00 AM Sunday morning worship services. This is not an auditioned group, and anyone is welcome to come and join at any time during the year. We rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:30 to around 8:40.

FIRST LIGHT serves as the primary worship leadership ensemble for our 8:30 AM Sunday morning worship services. Participation in First Light is by audition only. Vocalists interested in auditioning must be able to read music, learn new music very quickly, and be versatile enough to cover a secondary vocal part as needed. First Light's instrumentation is primarily guitar/keyboard based. Instrumentalists interested in auditioning should be familiar with reading music from lead-sheet / chord chart arrangements. With a rigorous rehearsal schedule, participation in this group requires a substantial commitment of time and energy.

The YOUTH CHOIR meets every Sunday afternoon at 5:00 PM. The ability to read music is not necessary but will be learned as you sing. The Youth Choir is under the leadership of Minister of Music Morris Driggers and sings periodically throughout the year in our morning worship services and other special occasions. One of the highlights of the FBC Youth Choir experience is the annual YouthCUE choral festival at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN (http://www.youthcue.org/festivals/cn2005/index.htmHYPERLINK http://www.youthcue.org/).

The YOUTH PRAISE BAND provides worship leadership for Youth Power Explosion on Sunday evenings. Participation is by audition under the leadership of Tara Webb, Youth Minister.

CHILDREN'S CHOIRS. First Baptist Church offers Children's Choirs for children in K4 through 6th grade every Wednesday evening from 5:50 to 6:25 PM. The primary purpose of Children's Choirs is to use the gift of music to teach the truths of the Gospel, and to prepare children to use the gift of music to worship God and to lead others to worship God. Two musical presentations, Children's Night at Christmas and Children's Night in the Spring, highlight the children's music program
